Verse of the Week: Proverbs 18:10
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”
In the Hebrew culture, a name is not just a label for someone, but it usually describes their character.
There are many times during pregnancy and labor that the world around us may seem to be failing, and sometimes it may seem like even our bodies are failing.
Whether it’s the end of pregnancy, feeling like your body is never going to kick into labor, or even the middle of pregnancy, feeling like your body is falling apart — it doesn’t feel like your body anymore as you experience changes and (sometimes) aliments.
The end of your pregnancy can feel so far away, and the idea of ever feeling normal again may not be there at all.
It is easy during hard pregnancies to get depressed or frustrated with how you want to feel and what you want to do, but just don’t or can’t.
Some people have wonderfully easy pregnancies, and their need for comfort may be during labor or postpartum. There are some of us, however, who have really hard pregnancies, and our need for comfort is a daily, hourly, moment-by-moment need.
This is a gift: to be in a place of needing our Savior so tangibly, so real, so desperately.
Whatever your need is, comfort can be found in our Strong Tower. The name of our Lord is a strong tower and we can run into Him and be safe. Comfort can be found when God changes our perspective on our current circumstances to the bigger gospel-centered picture.
These hard days, they will eventually end. It is easy to wish it away, but God is DOING something here. He is drawing you, inviting you into Himself for safety.
He desires to teach your heart, who tends to think it can do it on its own, that you need Him. You need Him for labor, you need Him for the pains in this pregnancy, you need Him to make it through today, you need Him to change your focus even this moment.
Ask Him. Confess your need for Him, moment by moment. Ask Him to change your perspective, to change your heart to run to Him and find comfort there.
