Isaiah 40:29

“He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.”

Have you ever experienced crippling exhaustion?

You are so tired you don’t even know how you will carry on to the next task.

Maybe you have been up all night with a baby, or maybe you are struggling with pregnancy insomnia. Maybe you are in the first trimester like I am and the fatigue is from your body working hard to form organs, limbs, and a beating heart of your new baby. Or maybe you will come to this place of exhaustion during your upcoming labor.

Whatever the reason, I’m sure we have all been there and “faint” barely seems to describe it.

I am there now. After spending almost two weeks in the hospital with my 11 month old and discovering we are expecting another sweet blessing, the exhaustion is in full force this week.

I woke up this morning wondering how I would make it through the day. I asked my husband to pray for me before he left for work, and as he was praying, I felt the Lord reminding me of this verse. He reminded me that He would increase my strength, and in this weakness I feel physically, He would be strong!

Exhaustion is still there, as I’m writing this in bed, but my heart is not faint. He supplies strength for each moment and that is all I need.

We can trust Him to do this, ya know? I know it may not make sense. I know it may all seem so overwhelming, this life you are living. 2 Corinthians 12:9 tells us that His power is made perfect in our weakness. Sometimes, it won’t be clear how you will do it, how you will survive.

I’ve had people ask me a lot recently how I am able to do it. Homeschooling so many kids. The truth of the matter is, without the Hope I have in Christ and His promise to increase my strength, I would crumble under the stress.

He will give us what we need for each moment, we just have to lean into Him more deeply. He will supply our strength when we lay down our weakness at the cross and allow Him to give us what we need.
