Verse of the Week

Hebrews 11:1

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

This week we’ve talked about birth plans and how they are a matter of Faith.  We got real about how birth plans aren’t a guarantee or a promise when it comes to the story God has written for our births.  We must lay those plans at the feet of Jesus and have faith in what is to come–His absolute provision and will, regardless of outcome. Matthew Henry describes faith this way:

It is a firm persuasion and expectation, that God will perform all he has promised to us in Christ. This persuasion gives the soul to enjoy those things now; it gives them a subsistence or reality in the soul, by the first-fruits and foretastes of them. Faith proves to the mind, the reality of things that cannot be seen by the bodily eye.

Do you expect the Lord to do all He has promised?  Do you mistakenly believe that His promises are always something we imagine is good and positive?  Scripture is pretty clear that God and those that follow Him aren’t PROMISED a perfect outcome or a pain-free experience in life, and this includes the area of labor and birth. Some of us, followers of Jesus, have the hardest journeys with the most incredible displays of God’s glory.  Some of us have to place more than just our birth plans in the hands of Jesus; some of us place the lives of our sweet babies into the hands of Jesus. But is anything unaccounted for by God? Did He not know? Did He not sew it all together as a part of His story? But FAITH is the assurance of things HOPED for, the CONVICTION of things not seen. It is knowing, full well, deeply from our head to our toes, in a supernatural sort of way, that God has all things in His hands.  His promises are TRUE, RIGHT, JUST, and GOOD even when things are hard, unimaginable, and often more than we think we can bear. God’s promises aren’t promises of an easy road.  They aren’t promises of a perfect life full of God’s favor and front row parking spots.  His promises aren’t of wealth and popularity.

His promises are made up of spiritual things…things that speak to our souls…things that nourish our spirit. Promises of a life eternal, wounds healed, and His amazing Grace!

Come before the cross today and lay your birth plans, past birth trauma, failed expectations, changes of plans, dwindling hope, and sadness at His feet.  Be rejuvenated by His promises of peace, rest, strength, faith, hope, comfort, and eternal, unending, relentless love for you.  Be convicted of things unseen and assured of things hoped for.  His LOVE for you is great.
