Briefly tell us about your family.

I have been married to my wife Chelsea since 2004.  In the first 8 years of marriage, we had 6 children.  Now we are looking forward to getting to know each other.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

When someone leaves me a voice mail that just says “Call me back.”

What did you do before joining Surrender Birth?

I direct the operations of a large electrical contracting company in Phoenix.

What made you want to join the Surrender Birth team?

I believe in the mission of Surrender and believe it will be a valuable resource for prospective fathers and mothers, whether they are having their first or eighth child.

What can we expect your role to be with Surrender Birth?

I will develop and implement operational tools and fiscal controls to support the Surrender team in efficiently and effectively meeting the needs of the Surrender community.

What strengths will you bring to Surrender Birth?

Business and financial planning, process mapping and management, and mad dish-washing skills.

What is one lesson God has taught you through birth?

That I am not able to, will not, and cannot control the situation through any amount of planning or effort of my own.

How do you think ‘surrendering’ relates to birth?

The process of ushering new life into this world is bigger than me.  It is bigger than my wife.  It is bigger than any doctor, midwife, or doula.  God designed it, ordained it, gifted it, and wants to be present through it.

If you had to name one thing you want couples to gain from Surrender Birth what would it be?

What stirs your affections for Jesus?

Music, the incredible fabric of God’s Word, and the love shown to me by my children.

What is your favorite passage in Scripture?

Psalm 127.

If you were speaking directly to the dads and soon-to-be dads, what is one piece of advice you would give them, having experienced the journey of birth 5 times?

Pray over your wife and child.  Engage your wife throughout the birth process.  Pay attention to details.  Over-communicate.  Be steady and calm in the storm.  Guard her from people who will introduce negativity or worry into the birthing process.

If you had to pick an attribute of God that He has been teaching to your heart most recently, which would it be?

Faithfulness.  Everything God has promised will come to pass. His faithfulness guarantees this fact. He does not lie. What He has said in the Bible about Himself is true. Jesus said that He is the Truth. It is on His faithfulness that our hope of eternal life rests. He will honor His promise that our sins will be forgiven and that we will live forever with Him.
