I struggle.  I always have.  I struggle to prioritize the time to spend time in God’s word.  I love Him.  I am so incredibly aware of His grace and mercy in my life.  I feel His presence. I see His blessings.  But, finding the time each day to spend time in His word has always been a struggle.

But, clearly it’s me.  I fail to prioritize like I should. I’m running behind. The baby is crying or needs to be fed. I could really use a nap. I need to make dinner. I deserve some quite time to myself. Playdates, school, homework, reading books, sports games, practice, bed time…whew…catch my drift?

Today must be confession day because I’m just being really honest.  I think about Him all day. I often throw up prayers throughout my day asking for His guidance, presence, protection, and more.  We listen to worship at home, morning and at night. I play worship on these little speakers in my children’s rooms while they sleep.  This way their spirit is hearing God’s truth and imprinting His love on their hearts in the quiet still hours.  But…spending time in His word. That’s hard.

I know I’m not alone. I know Satan easily distracts us and whispers that it’s okay not to spend time with our God and that it happens to many of us.  I know the great deceiver isn’t even an excuse because it’s me who fails to spend time with Him and the deceiver is simply satisfied with that.  I know habits are hard to break and form and we need motivation often to change our flawed character and turning our eyes to Jesus.

But, when I do spend time with Him; when I’m finally motivated enough by something or feel the need for His presence in my life more than usual, the result is something beautiful.  His word is a beautiful love letter. Not only does it tell us He loves us, but it shows us what He has done to demonstrate His love.

From cover to cover God’s displays and extends His incredible love for us. He begins by giving us Life. Breathed from His mouth. He has created this magical place for us to live and tend and grow. And, even when we fail, which took about 5.2 seconds, He spends the rest of the OT extending His hand, providing provision, giving us a way to continue to be near Him and ultimately show us how desperately we need Him. He then does what most of us would consider unthinkable and send His only son to die on a wooden cross for us so that we might have fellowship with Him again and forever.

This…this is why we can Surrender to Him.  This is why Surrender means we daily walk with Him. We tuck His word into our hearts. We KNOW Him deeply and intimately so we never doubt His love and His character. To know His faithfulness to His people, the sheep who know Him.

2016 is well under way, we’re already a month in. But, it’s never too late to pour yourself into His word and all that He has in store for your this year. SURRENDER to Him today and everyday this year.
