The small, barely 3 foot tall, sandy haired boy stood in the doorway with the light coming in all around him. He created a silhouette of perfection. His quaint little body barely cresting the height of the sliding glass door handle. He had on a cape of glistening red, sweetly tied around his neck. A mask on his face of his favorite super hero. (This was the part that caught my eye.) He was ready to face the giants, the invisible ones, the ones his imagination had conjured. He puffed up his chest and stepped off the ledge of the doorway with COURAGE. He didn’t even look back at me.
The mask. The Lord quickly brought to my mind what an important role the mask played in this exchange of imagination and play for my son.
The mask became his identity. He had the COURAGE because he WAS the superhero.
We belong to the Lord. We are His children. More than that, His word states explicitly, over and over, that He goes before us. He stands in the gap. We are His people.
Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. ~Psalm 100:3
In that moment I realized, He is our mask.
When we remember who we are to Jesus…
When we recall the blood He dripped to save us from our depravity…
When we imagine the LOVE He has for us and the battles He has already won…
We put on our mask and we have the COURAGE to step off the ledge and exchange with what awaits us in the “yard”. We can slay the dragons. We can face the hardships. We can bear the battle wounds.
Ephesians 6:10 states, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
We aren’t brave because of what WE have done. How could that ever be?
We are strong because of who HE is and what He has done in us and for us and will continue to do.
Mama’s as you face impending trials and challenges through pregnancy and motherhood…take heart and have COURAGE.
It replaces fear. It moves anxiety out of the way. It helps us take that step off the ledge.
Mark 5:35 “Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.””
From our Birth for His Glory Audio:
Psalm 34:4 – I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
–The Lord hears you and will deliver you. Cry out to Him today, from your heart. Let Him hear your needs and rescue you.
–Remember who God is; the creator of all the world. He defeats evil. Empowers armies to do the impossible. Remember who He is in your life as well. He is your courage and strength.
This weeks Prayer:
Father, thank you for calling me yours. Thank you for allowing me to change my identity in YOU. To put on your power. To clothe myself in your strength. You give me courage where I am weak. Father, do all things through me in your power and not my own. I give today, tomorrow and the rest of this pregnancy to you.
